MDCAT
MDCAT (Medical and Dental College Admission Test) is Pakistan’s national entry test for MBBS/BDS admissions, run by PMC (formerly PMDC). It’s drawn entirely from the FSc-level Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English syllabus — but the university you’re applying to still matters, since NUMS and a handful of other institutions apply their own aggregate formula on top of the same test.

ECAT
ECAT (Engineering College Admission Test) is UET’s entry test for engineering and computing admissions, drawn from the FSc Part I and II syllabus across Maths/Biology, Physics and Chemistry/Computer Science. It’s one of several engineering entry tests Pakistani students sit — NUST’s NET, FAST-NUCES, GIKI, NED, COMSATS and Air University each run their own, which is why the guides below cover more than just UET.

The test score isn’t the whole story
Both MDCAT and ECAT feed into a merit formula alongside your FSc/intermediate marks — sometimes matric marks too, depending on the university. A strong entry test score with a weak aggregate calculation can still miss the cut, which is why it’s worth checking your target university’s specific formula early rather than optimising for the test score in isolation.
Same subjects, different depth
Neither test introduces new content beyond the FSc syllabus — the difficulty comes from speed and precision under exam conditions, not unfamiliar material. That’s exactly what past-paper-style MCQ practice trains for, more directly than re-reading textbook chapters a second time.
Picking practice over guesswork
