ECAT Mock Test 2026: Free 20-Question Timed Practice With Explanations

A real ECAT mock test — Physics, Chemistry, Math and English together, timed, with a worked explanation for every answer. Try the first 20 questions free.

Most things labelled "ECAT mock test" online are just a past paper pasted into a webpage with an answer key at the bottom. That tells you what you got wrong. It doesn't tell you why, and it doesn't force you to work under the actual time pressure of the real UET entry test — 100 MCQs across Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English in 100 minutes.

A mock test that's actually useful needs three things: questions drawn from across all four sections in the real ratio, a running clock, and an explanation for every answer — not just the correct one, so you understand why the distractors are wrong too. That's the format below, and it's also exactly what HighYield's free ECAT sample gives you: no sign-up, no payment, the first 20 questions of the real bank, timed and explained.

What a Proper ECAT Mock Test Should Cover

The actual ECAT syllabus (UET pattern) splits roughly like this:

  • Mathematics — the largest section, typically the most weight
  • Physics — mechanics, electricity & magnetism, waves, modern physics
  • Chemistry — physical, organic and inorganic chemistry
  • English — grammar, vocabulary and comprehension, the smallest section but an easy source of marks if you prepare it

A mock test that only covers one section (most free "ECAT MCQs" pages online are Physics-only, or a single past paper photocopied into a blog post) doesn't train the thing that actually determines your score: switching between four different kinds of thinking under a ticking clock.

Sample Practice Set — One Question Per Core Area

Here's a small taste across all four sections, in the same style as the full bank. Try to answer before checking the marked option.

Physics

1. The SI unit of force is:

  • A) Joule
  • B) Newton ✅
  • C) Watt
  • D) Pascal

2. Newton's First Law of Motion is also known as the law of:

  • A) Momentum
  • B) Inertia ✅
  • C) Acceleration
  • D) Gravitation

Chemistry

3. The atomic number of Carbon is:

  • A) 8
  • B) 12
  • C) 6 ✅
  • D) 14

4. Which of these is a noble gas?

  • A) Nitrogen
  • B) Argon ✅
  • C) Chlorine
  • D) Hydrogen

Mathematics

5. The derivative of sin(x) with respect to x is:

  • A) −cos(x)
  • B) cos(x) ✅
  • C) −sin(x)
  • D) tan(x)

6. If a quadratic equation is ax² + bx + c = 0, its roots are given by:

  • A) x = −b ± √(b² − 4ac) / 2a ✅
  • B) x = −b ± √(b² + 4ac) / 2a
  • C) x = b ± √(b² − 4ac) / a
  • D) x = −b² ± 4ac / 2a

English

7. Choose the word closest in meaning to "meticulous":

  • A) Careless
  • B) Careful and precise ✅
  • C) Fast
  • D) Reluctant

Seven questions, four subjects, under two minutes if you know the material — that pacing, sustained across 100 questions, is what the real test demands.

Take the Real Thing, Free

The sample above is illustrative. HighYield's ECAT question bank has thousands of questions across all four sections, each with a full explanation, and the first 20 questions are free to try right now — same format, same timer, no account needed to start.

  • Timed like the real ECAT: practice under actual pacing pressure, not an untimed PDF.
  • Every answer explained: wrong options tell you why they're wrong, not just that they are.
  • All four sections, correctly weighted: not a Physics-only quiz mislabelled as a full mock test.
