SMLE
The Saudi Medical Licensing Exam (SMLE), run by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS), is the gateway for doctors seeking to practise in Saudi Arabia. It’s an MCQ-based clinical exam covering the same core specialties as an MBBS curriculum, tested at a licensing-exam level of depth rather than an undergraduate one.

MCCQE Part 1
The Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Exam (MCCQE) Part 1 is the entry point for Pakistani doctors pursuing licensure in Canada. It’s frequently compared to the USMLE — both test broad clinical knowledge — but MCCQE is the one that actually leads to Canadian registration, which is why doctors set on Canada specifically prepare for it rather than treating the two as interchangeable.

Why these are grouped as "licensing" exams
Unlike an entry test or a training-stage exam, a licensing exam is the last step before you’re legally allowed to practise somewhere — the destination changes (Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Canada), but the underlying purpose is the same: proving your clinical knowledge meets that country’s standard, independent of where you trained.
Computer-based, Prometric-style testing
SMLE, DHA and MCCQE are all delivered as computer-based MCQ tests rather than handwritten papers, often through Prometric or an equivalent test-centre network. Practising in a timed, on-screen format ahead of time removes one more unfamiliar variable from exam day, on top of the actual clinical content.
Picking the right exam for your destination
These exams aren’t interchangeable — passing MCCQE doesn’t license you in Saudi Arabia, and passing SMLE doesn’t license you in Canada. Decide your destination country first, then prepare for that country’s exam specifically, rather than treating broad clinical MCQ practice as a substitute for the exam that actually grants you registration.
