SMLE Mock Tests: How to Use Them in the Last 3 Weeks
How to schedule SMLE mock exams, simulate the two-block 200-question format with a real break, and read your results, with a week-by-week plan for the final three weeks.

Search for "SMLE mock test" and you will find hundreds of question sets, but a mock only helps if it behaves like the real thing. The real SMLE is a computer-based exam with two blocks of 100 questions, 120 minutes each, and a scheduled 30-minute break. Your mocks should match that.
What a good SMLE mock must do
- Run in two timed blocks, not one long session or open-ended practice.
- Hide answers until the end, then show explanations.
- Draw from all four disciplines in roughly the blueprint ratio: Medicine 30%, OB/GYN 25%, Pediatrics 25%, Surgery 20%.
- Give you a score by discipline so you know where to fix.
The last-three-weeks plan
Week 1: one diagnostic mock
Take a full mock cold to find your starting level. Do not worry about the score. Sort every missed question into three buckets: did not know, misread the stem, changed a right answer. Fix the first with study, the second by slowing down on the last line of the stem, the third by trusting your first clinical judgement unless you find a specific reason to change.
Week 2: targeted repair plus a second mock
Spend five days on your two weakest disciplines in Tutor mode. Then take a second full mock under real conditions, including a 30-minute break away from your desk.
Week 3: light touch
No new material in the last 48 hours. Do short mixed blocks, re-read your error notes, and sort out logistics: Prometric centre location, ID, and your scheduling permit.
Reading your results
- A big drop in accuracy in block 2 usually means fatigue or pacing, not knowledge. Practise with a snack and a short walk in the break.
- Running out of time in block 1 means you are spending too long on hard items. Aim for roughly 70 seconds per question and flag-and-move.
- Consistently weak in one discipline? Move 2 or 3 study days there.
