Who can apply for SZABMU MD, MS or MDS residency: MBBS/BDS with PMC registration, a one-year house job, a Part-I pass, how to apply online and the Rs 2,000 per specialty fee.

Admission to the MD, MS and MDS residency programmes at Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU) follows a fixed sequence: clear Part-I, then apply online when the university advertises the programme. The eligibility conditions and fee below are taken from the SZABMU road map for postgraduate residents.
Eligibility Criteria
- An MBBS / BDS or equivalent degree registered with PMC.
- One year of house job from a PMC-recognised institution.
- Permanent valid registration with PMC.
- A pass in MD / MS / MDS Part-I conducted by SZAB Medical University.

Admission Steps
- Pass Part-I. Dates are advertised in the national press and on the SZABMU website. The result is valid for two years.
- Apply online on the SZABMU admissions portal once the residency programme is advertised.
- Choose your degree level (MD, MS or MDS). After that you can apply to a maximum of two specialties.
- Pay the processing fee. Rs 2,000 for each specialty, paid by bank draft or pay order in favour of the university. It is non-refundable and non-adjustable.
- Check every detail. The university may cancel an application with incorrect information without refund.
What Comes After Admission
Residents complete mandatory workshops and submit a thesis synopsis in the first year, keep a logbook, and take a Mid-Term Assessment before the final examination. The final has a theory component of two MCQ papers of 100 questions each, an OSCE and clinical examination, and a defence of the thesis. For the Part-I paper itself, see the exam pattern and weightage.
Preparing While You Wait for the Advertisement
Part-I dates and admission advertisements can come at short notice, so it pays to be ready before the notice appears. Start with the study plan and use the MD or MS question bank for the weighted topic practice. The same eligibility summary is on our eligibility and admission guide.
