FCPS Part 1 ENT: Syllabus & Eligibility
What FCPS Part 1 ENT actually tests, who is eligible, how to apply through the CPSP ePortal, and how to prepare.

FCPS Part 1 ENT is the entry examination for doctors who want postgraduate specialist training in Otorhinolaryngology (ear, nose and throat surgery) through the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP). This guide covers who is eligible, how to apply and what the two papers cover.
Who Is Eligible
- An MBBS degree from an institution recognised by PMDC/PMC.
- A completed house job at a recognised institution, the usual one-year requirement CPSP applies across FCPS Part 1 specialties.
- Valid PMDC/PMC registration, or your renewal receipt if it is being renewed.
- An application through the CPSP ePortal for ENT and your chosen session.
Foreign graduates: your degree must be recognised and equated by PMDC/PMC before you apply. CPSP updates eligibility details (house job timing, documents) from session to session, so confirm the current rules on cpsp.edu.pk rather than relying on a previous year's guide.
FCPS Part 1 ENT Syllabus
As in every FCPS Part 1 specialty, ENT candidates sit two papers that are scored together:
- Paper 1: shared basic sciences. Anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology and related subjects, identical in format to the other specialties.
- Paper 2: ENT-specific. Anatomy, physiology and diseases of the ear, nose and paranasal sinuses, pharynx and oral cavity, larynx and airway, and head and neck, including relevant embryology and pathology.
This is a general orientation, not a replacement for the official prospectus. Download the exact CPSP ENT syllabus from our FCPS Part 1 syllabus page and prepare from that.
How to Apply
- Use the CPSP ePortal, the only official route. Do not apply through third parties.
- Choose ENT as your specialty and complete the form with your PMDC/PMC number.
- Keep your Form number and fee challan, which identify your application.
- Pay the fee by challan or the approved online option. CPSP sets the fee independently, so read the amount on your challan.
- Upload documents and submit. Unreadable scans are a common cause of rejection.
- Download your roll number slip once payment and documents are verified.
How ENT Differs From Other FCPS Part 1 Specialties
- Anatomy carries extra weight. The ear, the nasal cavity and sinuses, the pharynx and larynx, and the neck spaces are anatomically dense, and many ENT questions are anatomy in disguise.
- Clinical reasoning is regional. A site-of-lesion question (for example a facial nerve palsy or a referred earache) usually depends on knowing the nerve and blood supply of that region.
- Pathway. Passing ENT Part 1 qualifies you for CPSP-recognised ENT training, not a different specialty.
How to Prepare
Build basic-science concepts first, then drill ENT MCQs region by region, and finish with timed mixed practice. Our FCPS Part 1 preparation guide gives a stage-by-stage timeline, and the ENT MCQs overview shows what good practice looks like.
