CIP Merit Calculator: How FCPS Part 1 Factors Into Residency Merit

What the CIP merit score for residency induction is made up of, why exact weightages vary by province and cycle, and how to use HighYield's live CIP Merit Calculator.

If you've passed FCPS Part 1 and are now applying for postgraduate residency training, you've probably run into the term "CIP merit" — and started looking for a calculator to tell you where you stand.

What CIP Merit Actually Combines

The Central Induction Policy (CIP) is how provincial residency programmes in Pakistan rank MBBS/BDS graduates for postgraduate training slots. Broadly, the merit score is built from a combination of components that typically include your FCPS Part 1 (or JCAT) result, your MBBS/BDS academic aggregate, house job performance, and sometimes university distinctions or your MDCAT score.

Why We Won't Quote You an Exact Formula Here

The exact weightage given to each component is set by the relevant provincial residency programme (for example, the Punjab Residency Programme), not by CPSP itself, and it is revised — sometimes substantially — between induction cycles. A number that was accurate for one cycle can be wrong for the next. Rather than print a fixed breakdown here that may already be out of date by the time you read it, we'd rather point you to where the real, current numbers live.

Use the Live Calculator

HighYield maintains a CIP Merit Calculator that you can use directly with your own marks. For the authoritative, currently-in-force weightage for your province and induction cycle, always cross-check against your province's official residency programme notification before making any decision based on a calculated score.
