CSS Result 2026: How to Check Your Result, Merit List, and What Happens Next

Everything about CSS results — how FPSC declares results, where to check them, understanding the merit list, and next steps after passing.

CSS result day is a life-changing moment for thousands of candidates across Pakistan. After months of grueling preparation and a two-week written exam marathon, the result determines whether you move forward to the interview stage or must try again. This guide explains everything about CSS results in 2026.

When Are CSS Results Declared?

CSS results are typically declared in two phases:

  • Written exam result: Usually announced 3–5 months after the written exam. If the exam is in February–March 2026, expect written results by June–August 2026.
  • Final result (after interview): Announced 2–3 months after the last interview session. This is the final merit list that determines service allocation.

How to Check Your CSS Result

  1. Visit fpsc.gov.pk — The official FPSC website publishes all CSS results.
  2. Navigate to Results section — Look for "CSS Results" or "CSS [Year] Result."
  3. Search by roll number — Enter your roll number or CNIC to find your individual result.
  4. Download the merit list PDF — FPSC publishes complete merit lists in PDF format listing all successful candidates.

Understanding the Written Exam Result

The written exam result shows:

  • Qualified / Not Qualified: Whether you passed the written exam.
  • Paper-wise marks: Your score in each of the 12 papers (6 compulsory + 6 optional).
  • Total marks: Your aggregate out of 1,200.
  • Category: Some results show recommended/not recommended for interview.

To pass, you typically need:

  • Minimum 33% in each individual paper
  • Overall aggregate of 50% or above (600+ out of 1,200)

CSS Pass Rate Statistics

The CSS written exam is notoriously difficult:

  • Only 2–5% of candidates who appear in the written exam pass it.
  • Out of 15,000–20,000 candidates who sit the exam, typically 300–600 pass the written portion.
  • The most common reasons for failure: poor essay writing, weak English, and inadequate preparation of optional subjects.

What Happens After Passing the Written Exam

Psychological Assessment

Candidates who clear the written exam undergo a psychological test conducted by psychologists. This assesses personality traits, leadership qualities, and mental fitness for civil service.

Medical Examination

A medical board examines your physical fitness. Specific requirements apply for Police Service (PSP) candidates, who need to meet height, weight, and fitness standards.

Viva Voce (Interview)

The interview carries 300 marks. A panel of senior civil servants and academics asks questions about:

  • Your background and motivation
  • Current affairs and general knowledge
  • Your optional subjects
  • Situational and analytical questions
  • Pakistan's governance challenges

Final Merit List and Service Allocation

After interviews, FPSC prepares the final merit list based on:

  • Written exam marks: 1,200
  • Interview marks: 300
  • Total: 1,500

Your position on the merit list determines which service group you are allocated to:

  • Top ranks: PAS (Pakistan Administrative Service) or FSP (Foreign Service)
  • Upper middle ranks: PSP (Police Service), OMG (Office Management Group)
  • Lower ranks: Inland Revenue, Customs, Audit, Commerce, Information, Railways, and other groups

You express preferences for service groups, and allocation is done based on merit ranking and available vacancies.

If You Do Not Pass

  • Analyze your result: Check which papers pulled your score down. Focus on those in your next attempt.
  • You have 3 attempts total: If this was your first or second attempt, you can try again.
  • Consider coaching: If you failed narrowly, targeted coaching for weak papers may be worth the investment.
  • PMS as an alternative: Provincial Management Service exams are conducted by provincial PSCs and offer similar career paths at the provincial level.

Check your result as soon as FPSC announces it, download your marks sheet, and if you have passed, begin interview preparation immediately. Time between written results and interviews is limited — use every day wisely.
