Why FCPS Part 1 candidates should care about CIP
If you're applying for postgraduate residency training (FCPS, MS, MD, or MDS) through the Punjab Residency Program, seats are offered strictly by your Central Induction Policy (CIP) merit score — a 30-mark formula covering MDCAT, your MBBS/BDS professional exams, university positions, house job, and FCPS-I or JCAT.
The FCPS-I component is attempt-weighted: a first-attempt pass is worth 5 marks, a second-attempt pass only 4, third attempt 3, and nothing from a fourth attempt onward. That two-mark gap between a first and second attempt is often enough on its own to decide whether you clear a training programme's merit cut-off — which makes thorough Part 1 preparation a direct lever on where you end up training, not just whether you pass.

"Any other case" covers: house job outside your parent institution (elsewhere in Punjab), outside Punjab entirely, or a foreign graduate completing house job at a recognised Punjab teaching hospital.

How many CIP marks is FCPS-I worth?+
Up to 5 marks, on a sliding scale by attempt: 5 for a first-attempt pass, 4 for a second attempt, 3 for a third attempt, and 0 from a fourth attempt onward.
Does CIP apply outside Punjab?+
No — CIP is specific to postgraduate residency induction through the Punjab Residency Program (PRP). Other provinces and Islamabad run their own separate induction and merit processes.
Is the CIP formula the same every induction cycle?+
No. The Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Department has revised it more than once — most recently for July 2026 induction, when working-experience marks were discontinued. Always check the current notification on the official PRP portal before relying on a figure.
