OET Mock Test Online: What a Good Practice Test Should Include

How to tell a useful OET mock test from a weak one: format, timing, audio, marking and review, with a short checklist you can use.

A mock test is only useful if it feels like the real exam and tells you why you lost marks. Use this list to judge any OET practice test.

Format and Timing

  • Listening: 42 items across Parts A, B and C, audio played once.
  • Reading: Part A timed at 15 minutes, then Parts B and C within the remaining 45.
  • Writing: a profession-specific task from case notes within 45 minutes.
  • Speaking: two role-plays with preparation time.

Quality Signs

  • Natural audio with varied accents and realistic pace.
  • Answers that are checkable against the script or text.
  • Explanations that show where the answer comes from.
  • Writing tasks with a model answer and a list of key points.

Warning Signs

  • Audio you can replay freely when the real exam plays it once.
  • Claims of official scores. Only OET assessors issue them.
  • Too few tests to see a trend.

Using Mock Tests Well

Do the first under strict timing, review every error, then target the weakest part. Repeat weekly. See how to practise each sub-test and try the free listening sample test.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many mock tests should I take?

Several in each skill, spaced out, so you can see a trend rather than one score.

Are mock scores accurate?

They are indicative. Listening and Reading are objective; Writing and Speaking marking in practice tools is approximate.

Can I replay audio in practice?

Use replay while learning, then switch to once-only audio as the exam approaches.
