OET Results: How Long They Are Valid and What to Know Before Retaking
How long OET results stay valid, when results arrive, and how retaking works, with the questions to ask your regulator before rebooking.

Planning a retake is mostly about two questions: how long your current results remain valid, and whether your regulator will combine scores from different sittings.
How Long Are OET Results Valid?
OET results are generally valid for two years from the test date. Some regulators and visa programmes apply their own, shorter windows, so the date that matters is the one your regulator states.
When Do Results Arrive?
Release times depend on the test type: computer-based tests usually return results sooner than paper-based ones. Your booking confirmation gives the expected date, and results appear in your online account.
Retaking the Test
- You can book OET again, subject to the booking rules and a fresh fee.
- Whether you must retake all four sub-tests or can combine scores from different sittings depends on the regulator, not on OET.
- Before rebooking, find out which sub-test cost you the grade, and practise that one specifically.
What to Fix First
For most candidates the weakest sub-test is Writing. See how to improve your OET writing score and common OET mistakes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I retake only one sub-test?
That depends on the regulator and OET rules at the time of your booking; ask both.
Do OET results expire?
Generally after two years, though some bodies set shorter limits.
Is there a limit on retakes?
OET itself allows rebooking; regulators may have their own rules about combining attempts.
OET is run by Cambridge Boxhill Language Assessment. Format, fees and recognition rules change, so confirm every detail on the official OET website and with the regulator you are applying to. HighYield is an independent practice provider and is not affiliated with OET.
