How Is OET Scored? The 0 to 500 Scale and Grades A to E Explained
OET gives a score out of 500 for each sub-test and a letter grade. What each grade means and why there is no single overall score.

OET does not give one overall score. Each of the four sub-tests is scored separately on a scale of 0 to 500, and each score maps to a grade from A to E.
| Grade | Score range |
|---|---|
| A | 450 to 500 |
| B | 350 to 440 |
| C+ | 300 to 340 |
| C | 200 to 290 |
| D | 100 to 190 |
| E | 0 to 90 |
What This Means for You
Regulators set their own minimums, often a Grade B (350) in some or all sub-tests. Because the sub-tests are reported separately, a strong Listening score does not offset a weak Writing score. Check the exact rule, including whether results from more than one sitting can be combined, with your regulator.
How Raw Marks Become 350
For Listening and Reading, the number of correct answers is converted to the 0 to 500 scale. Writing and Speaking are marked by trained assessors against published criteria. A Grade B target is explained in more detail in OET Grade B for doctors.
Tracking Your Progress
Our practice tests give indicative scores. They are not official OET marks, and the writing score is rule-based. Use them to see trends, not to predict your exact result.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a good OET score?
Grade B (350 to 440) is the usual target for registration. Grade A is 450 to 500.
Is there an overall OET score?
No. Each sub-test is reported separately.
Are OET scores a percentage?
No, they are on a 0 to 500 scale, so 350 is not 70 percent of marks in the usual sense.
OET is run by Cambridge Boxhill Language Assessment. Format, fees and recognition rules change, so confirm every detail on the official OET website and with the regulator you are applying to. HighYield is an independent practice provider and is not affiliated with OET.
