What the Examiner Looks For

  • A clear thesis that answers the topic directly
  • A logical order of ideas
  • Relevant facts, examples and references to Pakistan
  • Correct grammar and a formal, balanced tone

A 3-Hour Time Plan

TimeTask
10 minRead all topics, choose the one you can argue best
15–20 minWrite a full outline: thesis, 4–5 main points, counter-argument, conclusion
2 h 10 minWrite the essay, keeping to the outline
15 minRead, fix grammar, check the introduction and conclusion match

How to Build the Outline

  1. Introduction: a hook, short background, and your thesis statement.
  2. Body: four or five paragraphs, each with one idea, evidence and a link back to the thesis.
  3. Counter-argument: acknowledge the other side and answer it.
  4. Way forward: practical recommendations, especially for Pakistan.
  5. Conclusion: restate the thesis in new words, no new arguments.

Choosing a Topic

Pick the topic where you have the most examples, not the one that sounds most impressive. A narrow topic written well beats a broad topic written vaguely.

Common Mistakes

  • Writing without an outline, which leads to repetition
  • Memorised essays that do not match the topic
  • Over-long introductions and weak conclusions
  • Quoting statistics you cannot verify

How to Practise

Write one timed essay a week from past-paper topics, then compare it with a model outline. Build a notebook of facts on governance, economy, education, environment, foreign policy and society. Pair this with MCQ practice for the objective papers, and see CSS English: Precis and Composition for grammar and vocabulary.
