FCPS Part 1 Pathology Past Papers & Prep: How to Use Them to Pass
How to use Pathology past papers and recall-style questions for FCPS Part 1: what they test, how to review, and the errors to avoid.

For FCPS Part 1, past papers and candidate recalls are the fastest way to learn what the exam rewards: applied reasoning rather than isolated facts. For Pathology, that means seeing how a concept like a translocation, an enzyme defect or a hypersensitivity type is turned into a short clinical question.
What Recall-Style Questions Look Like
- Short clinical vignettes. A patient with microcytic anaemia not responding to iron, and the answer is the test that confirms thalassaemia trait.
- "Which is the exception" questions. A list of associations with one false statement.
- Basic-science one-liners. Nerve supply, enzyme deficiencies, drug mechanisms and normal values.
- Repeated concepts. The same idea returns in different wording across sessions, which is why concept-first review beats memorising answer keys.
How to Use Past Papers Effectively
- Timed blocks, then a full review. Do 40 to 50 questions against the clock, then read every explanation, including those you got right by guessing.
- Keep an error log by subject. Haematology, neoplasia and immunology errors usually reflect gaps in one underlying mechanism, not isolated facts.
- Do not trust any single key blindly. Recall papers circulate with wrong answers. If a key contradicts your textbook, check a reference; a wrongly memorised answer costs marks.
- Finish with mixed papers. In the last weeks, switch from subject-wise drills to full mixed timed mocks.
Where HighYield's Questions Come From
The Pathology bank is modelled on past-paper and recall patterns, textbook review questions and the shared basic-sciences core, and every question is explained. We do not reproduce CPSP's papers; see why our MCQs aren't copied from past papers.
Practise With Explanations
HighYield's FCPS Part 1 Pathology QBank has 3,800+ MCQs across general and systemic pathology, haematology, microbiology and immunology, plus the shared basic sciences (anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology and forensic medicine). Every question has a written explanation, four full-length mock tests mirror the two-paper layout, and subject analytics show which area needs another pass. Your first 20 questions are free, no card required.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I do past papers before finishing the syllabus?
Start early with untimed practice per subject, and move to timed mixed papers in your last few weeks.
How many times should I repeat the same questions?
Re-attempt only the ones you got wrong, a few days later, then a week later. Repeating questions you already know adds nothing.
