AKUEB SSC-I (Class 9) Guide: Subjects, Syllabus & How to Prepare
What AKU-EB SSC-I actually covers — the ten subjects it's offered in, how the MCQ section fits into the paper, and how to prepare for it.

AKU-EB SSC-I is the Class 9 examination from the Aga Khan University Examination Board (AKU-EB) — Pakistan's second major secondary-school board alongside the provincial Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISEs). It uses a Student Learning Outcomes (SLO)-based syllabus, and most AKU-EB subject papers are split into a multiple-choice (MCQ) component and a constructed-response (short/long answer) component.
Which Subjects Does SSC-I Cover?
AKU-EB SSC-I spans both the science and commerce/humanities groups. The subjects currently offered are:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Mathematics
- General Mathematics
- Computer Science
- English
- Civics
- Business Studies
- Principles of Accounting
Most science-group students take Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics (or General Mathematics, depending on the stream), while commerce-group students take Business Studies, Principles of Accounting and Civics alongside English and either Mathematics or General Mathematics.
How the MCQ Section Fits Into the Paper
Because AKU-EB questions are SLO-based rather than drawn verbatim from one textbook, the safest way to prepare for the MCQ section is to practise against the Student Learning Outcomes for each subject, not just against last year's paper alone.
How to Prepare for the MCQ Section
- Work through past papers by subject, not as one undifferentiated pile — identify which SLOs keep reappearing in each subject's papers.
- Time yourself. The MCQ section is timed, so practising untimed builds a false sense of pace.
- Read the explanation, not just the answer key — especially in Biology and Chemistry, where a wrong option is usually a common misconception rather than a random distractor.
- Don't neglect General Mathematics, Civics or Business Studies just because fewer resources exist for them online — the MCQ weighting in the paper doesn't change because a subject is less covered on the internet.
Exam Dates, Fees & Registration
AKU-EB sets its own exam schedule, registration windows and fee structure each year, and these change from cycle to cycle. Rather than quoting a figure here that may be out of date by the time you read this, check the current cycle on AKU-EB's official website through your school — AKU-EB exams are normally registered through affiliated schools rather than by individual candidates applying directly.
