MDCAT Each Year: What Changes and What Stays the Same

MDCAT updates yearly — test dates, fee, syllabus tweaks, and pattern changes. Here is what typically changes and what remains constant every year.

Every year, students search for "MDCAT 2026," "MDCAT 2024," or "MDCAT 2026" looking for year-specific information. While some details change annually, much of MDCAT remains consistent. This guide helps you understand what to expect regardless of the year.

What Stays the Same Every Year

  • Conducting body: PMC conducts MDCAT. This has not changed since 2020.
  • Core syllabus: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and English based on the FSc Pre-Medical curriculum.
  • Purpose: Required for MBBS/BDS admission to all public and private medical colleges (except NUMS and AKU).
  • Test format: Computer-based test (CBT) with multiple-choice questions.
  • General timing: Test held in September–November period.
  • Aggregate formula: 10% Matric + 40% FSc + 50% MDCAT (standard across provinces).

What Changes Each Year

  • Exact test dates: The specific dates shift annually. Always check PMC for the latest announcement.
  • Registration fee: May increase slightly year over year.
  • Number of questions per subject: PMC occasionally adjusts the breakdown (e.g., adding or reducing questions in a subject by a few marks).
  • Difficulty level: The overall difficulty can vary. Some years are considered easier or harder by students.
  • Minimum qualifying score: PMC may adjust the passing threshold.
  • Syllabus updates: PMC may add or remove specific topics from the detailed syllabus.
  • Test centers: New cities or centers may be added or removed based on capacity.

How to Stay Updated Each Year

  1. Bookmark pmc.gov.pk — This is the primary source for all MDCAT announcements.
  2. Follow PMC on social media — Official accounts post real-time updates.
  3. Check in June–July — Registration typically opens in this window.
  4. Download the latest syllabus — PMC publishes the updated syllabus each year. Study from the current year's syllabus, not last year's.

Year-Specific Search Advice

When you search for "MDCAT 2026" or "MDCAT 2024," keep in mind:

  • Results from previous years are no longer applicable for current admissions.
  • Old registration links will be inactive.
  • Merit cutoffs from previous years are only useful as rough estimates — they change every year based on the number of applicants, test difficulty, and available seats.

Evergreen Preparation Advice

Regardless of the year, these principles always apply:

  • Master Biology first — It always carries the highest marks.
  • Practice 3,000+ MCQs — Quantity and quality of practice determine your score.
  • Use past papers — They reveal the recurring concepts and question patterns PMC favors.
  • Take weekly mock tests — Build stamina and time management skills.
  • Start early — 3–4 months of focused preparation is the minimum for a competitive score.

Do not get caught up searching for year-specific hacks. Focus on the fundamentals, practice relentlessly, and your MDCAT score will reflect your effort — any year.
