MCCQE Part 1 Fees: Complete Cost Breakdown for Pakistani Applicants (2025)

A clear breakdown of MCCQE Part 1 and Part 2 fees, what Pakistani candidates pay in PKR, additional costs to budget for, and how to pay the MCC.

MCCQE Part 1 Exam Fee 2025

The Medical Council of Canada (MCC) sets the MCCQE Part 1 examination fee in Canadian dollars (CAD). As of 2025, the fee for MCCQE Part 1 is approximately CAD 1,465. At current exchange rates this converts to roughly PKR 290,000-310,000, though the exact amount in rupees will depend on the exchange rate on the day you make your payment.

The MCC reviews its fee schedule periodically. Always confirm the current fee directly on the MCC website (mcc.ca) before applying, as fees can change between examination cycles.

MCCQE Part 2 Fees

MCCQE Part 2 - the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) - carries a higher fee than Part 1, currently in the range of CAD 3,200-3,500. This reflects the significant logistical cost of running a standardised clinical skills examination with trained standardised patients and examiners. Part 2 must also be taken in Canada, so Pakistani candidates must factor in travel and accommodation costs on top of the examination fee itself.

Total Cost of MCCQE for Pakistani Candidates

The examination fees are only one part of the total financial picture. A realistic budget for a Pakistani doctor pursuing Canadian licensure via the MCCQE includes:

  • MCC candidate registration fee: approximately CAD 350-400 (a one-time fee paid when you first register with the MCC)
  • MCCQE Part 1 examination fee: approximately CAD 1,465
  • QBank and study materials: CAD 200-600 depending on the resources you choose
  • MCCQE Part 2 examination fee: approximately CAD 3,200-3,500
  • Travel and accommodation for Part 2 in Canada: highly variable depending on city, season, and duration of stay

In total, the examination fees alone for both parts exceed CAD 5,000 - roughly PKR 1,000,000 or more at current rates. Planning for this well in advance is essential.

MCCQE Part 1 Fees in Pakistan - What You Actually Pay

When sitting MCCQE Part 1 in Pakistan (at a Pearson VUE test centre), you pay the MCC directly in Canadian dollars via an online payment. The MCC does not charge an additional fee for sitting the examination outside Canada - the fee is the same regardless of which Pearson VUE centre you use globally.

Payments are made through the MCC online portal using a credit or debit card. Most Pakistani candidates use a dollar-denominated Visa or Mastercard, or arrange payment through a foreign exchange service. Verify with your bank that international online transactions of this size are enabled before attempting to pay.

Can the Fee Be Refunded or Deferred?

The MCC has a deferral and cancellation policy that allows candidates to reschedule or cancel their examination within specific timeframes. A full or partial refund may be available if you cancel well in advance; cancelling close to the examination date typically results in forfeiture of the full fee. Review the MCC's current cancellation policy carefully before booking, particularly if your examination date might be affected by visa delays, personal circumstances, or shifts in your residency application timeline.

Fee Waivers and Financial Assistance

The MCC does not currently offer fee waivers for international medical graduates. Some Pakistani doctors seek sponsorship from hospital employers, family contributions, or personal loans to cover examination costs. A few diaspora physician organisations and foundations occasionally offer grants to IMG candidates - it is worth researching these if cost is a significant barrier.

Is the Investment Worth It?

Canadian medical salaries for specialists range from CAD 200,000 to over CAD 500,000 annually, and family physicians earn CAD 150,000-300,000 depending on province and practice model. The total cost of MCCQE Part 1 and Part 2 - including study materials, travel, and fees - typically represents less than two months of a Canadian resident physician's salary. For Pakistani doctors, the long-term financial and professional return on this investment is substantial.
